Editorial Reviews:

MySpace. YouTube. Facebook. Friendster. Nearly every teen in America is on the Internet every day, socializing with friends and strangers alike, "trying on" identities, and building a virtual profile of themselves - one that many kids insist is a more honest depiction of who they really are than the person they portray at home or in school.

Growing Up Online peers inside the world of this cyber-savvy generation through the eyes of teens and their parents, who often find themselves on opposite sides of a new digital divide. A generation with a radically different notion of privacy and personal space, today's adolescents are grappling with issues their parents never had to deal iwth: from cyber bullying to instant "Internet fame," to the specter of online sexual predators.

Frontline investigates the risks, realities, and misconceptions of teenage self-expression on the World Wide Web.

Summary: Growing Up Online
Comment: The Frontline series tackles controversial issues and this one is no exception. I have purchased several titles from this series for the library. They may not be the most popular DVDs here, but for those who like non-fiction, newsworthy movies, or who want to watch something about a particular topic, they are great!

Summary: Very informative
Comment: One of the most informative videos that deals with the positive and negative activity online. A great video to show young adults about the potential dangers as well. It is viewable online in a small viewer box at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/kidsonline/. Topics covered: Cyber Bullying, Child Preditors, Parent Involvement, socializing, and more.
